Victorian Parliament passes donor information amendments

Aug 2014 |
Donor conception
Regulation

Legislation giving Victorians conceived through donor sperm donated before 1988 the right to access identifying information about their donors with their donor's consent passed on 21 August 2014 and took effect from 29 June 2015.

The new legislation brings the rights of donor conceived people born before 1988 into line with those born between 1988 and the end of 1997 who have the right to access identifying information about the donor with the donor's consent. Until then, donor-conceived people born before 1988 had no way of connecting with their donor unless both parties registered with the Voluntary Donor Register because at the time donors were informed that they would remain anonymous.
