‘Donor conception: towards openness’

Children’s corner

Families are created in many ways; being open with children can make them feel more comfortable about the way they were conceived and benefit them in their future. The featured children have known from a young age and are very thankful to their donors for helping shape their special families.

Donor Dad

Donor Dad is taking off his beanie. It is Christmas. It is like a sleeping hat that he forgot to take off. He is standing on a very steady rock. I am walking to the shops. His T-Shirt says I love snakes and I am a snake lover.

Mummy got an egg from a kind lady

Mummy got an egg from a kind lady called Aunty Suzy. The fairies helped my mum keep me safe till I was big enough to come out and be born. The rainbow is how I feel.

Me and my family
None of my classmates knew what a donor was

At school I told my class that I don’t have a dad, I have a donor. One of the teachers then said that she had a donor too. None of my classmates knew what a donor was. It was the first time the teacher had told anyone about it…

‘Donor conception: towards openness’

This ground-breaking exhibition explores the human story of donor conception and is dedicated to the memory of Narelle Grech, a donor-conceived woman, who fought courageously for the right to learn the truth of her genetic heritage. The original exhibition was exhibited in the Melbourne City Library, June 2015.
